Continuing a Legacy: Welcoming Joshua Davis

Bees have always been part of the scenery at the Davis house. Growing up, Joshua would watch the beekeepers on his mom’s team come and go from the backyard, dropping off swarms and colonies like it was the most ordinary thing in the world. Every once in a while, he’d tag along with his mom, Esther Davis, on a job site — just along for the ride, not really part of the work. It was simply the family business, humming along in the background of an otherwise normal childhood.

It wasn’t until his teenage years that Joshua actually pulled on an oversized bee suit and started helping for real. And today, that same teenager has grown into an 18-year-old high school graduate, stepping into a new role at the very company that quietly shaped him his whole life. The bee suit fits a little better now. So does the confidence. Curiosity has grown into genuine passion, but the values underneath it all haven’t changed: hard work, respect for nature, and a heart for helping people.

For Esther, the most meaningful part isn’t simply welcoming another employee. It’s knowing that her son chose this path on his own.

So who is the young man stepping into the next chapter of the Davis family legacy?

Meet Joshua

When Joshua isn’t out with the bees, you can most likely find him playing pickleball, fishing, or riding his dirt bike.

He loves his family and loves his friends that have become like family. Joshua is a social butterfly and has an electric personality that many are drawn to.

“Most people notice Josh’s energy and enthusiasm first. What they don’t immediately see is the depth of his character. He’s the kind of person who notices when someone needs help, quietly steps in, and never expects recognition for it. That’s one of the things I adore most about him.”

Joshua’s faith has quietly shaped the kind of businessman he’s becoming.

“My faith is a big part of who I am. It’s helped me feel connected to my grandpa, who started this business — I like to think he’s still with me, guiding the decisions I make and the way I treat people. That connection is part of what drives me to want to help this business grow, the same way he did.”

A passion for bees

Growing up around bees didn’t automatically mean Joshua loved them right away. It wasn’t until recently that curiosity took hold and a lifelong appreciation for beekeeping began to take root.

“If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t really find bees fascinating until right about a year ago. I started helping with the bees when I was 13, but I was always afraid of them. But through my senior year of high school, I kept on going out there to help my mom with the bees and liked it.”

Joshua has taken on a lot more responsibility over the course of the past year. He has loved immersing himself into as many aspects of the business as possible. In between his school classes and homework, he would find time to work and learn the business. He has built and painted dozens of bee boxes, assisted on removals, worked on hive management, filmed social media content, and attended beekeeping conferences. He truly has embraced every opportunity to learn.

Beyond learning the business, Joshua discovered something he wasn’t expecting.

“I learned that beekeeping is one of the most peaceful things I have ever done. It’s a good way to clear your head and just focus on something simple.”

The people who shaped his journey

When asked about his favorite aspect of officially joining, Joshua said that it is the team that has been cultivated.

“The people my mom ended up hiring are all family to me and treat my mom so well. I’m happy to say that everyone that works for my mom right now will be invited to my wedding.”

Joshua’s admiration doesn’t stop with the team. The person he looks up to most is his mom, Esther Davis. According to Joshua, she is the most influential and important person in his life.

“She gave me the best childhood I could ever ask for and is the best woman in the world. I would thank her for being so patient, kind, thoughtful, understanding, and generous. I owe a lot of who I am to her. No matter what she’s going through, she always makes sure the people she loves are doing okay. That’s just who she is.”

Years ago, Joshua was the kid tagging along on the occasional job site and watching the bees come and go in his own backyard. Today, he walks alongside his mom as a teammate, carrying forward the same passion and values that have defined Little Giant Beekeepers for generations.

Three generations, one set of values

As Little Giant Beekeepers begins this new chapter, one thing remains unchanged: our commitment to serving North Texas with honesty, integrity, and respect for both people and bees. It’s been 46 years since Esther’s parents first started this business, and your trust has allowed our family to grow it across three generations. We are deeply grateful to continue serving this community we love.

It started with Esther’s mother, Louise, and a fascination with honey bees that turned into a calling. Esther’s father, Harold, shared that same vision — together, they set out to build something lasting, a legacy they could one day leave to their children.

That shared vision, one person’s passion matched by another’s drive to build it into something real, is what turned a backyard curiosity into Little Giant Beekeepers. It’s the same partnership Esther sees echoed today, watching Joshua step in beside her.

“This business has never just been about bees. It’s about serving people, helping people discover the remarkable world of honey bees, doing honest work, and leaving things better than we found them. Those are the values Little Giant Beekeepers was built on, and they’re the same values Josh has grown up with. He brings his own strengths, ideas, and energy to our business, and I couldn’t be prouder to watch him help shape the next chapter of our family’s legacy. I don’t want him to become another me — I want him to become the best version of himself while carrying forward the values my parents started 46 years ago.”
