Bee Removal in Austin, Texas

Let's be straight with you, because the rest of this page is worthless if we aren't.

We are a Dallas–Fort Worth beekeeping family. All four of our offices are in the metroplex, roughly 200 miles north of you. We are not going to promise you same-day service in Austin, because we cannot deliver it and anyone who does is either subcontracting the work or hasn't looked at a map.

What we will actually do for an Austin call

Call us and you will get a beekeeper on the phone who will work out what you have — swarm, established colony, or wasps — and tell you honestly whether it is worth us travelling.

For most Austin situations it isn't, and we will say so and help you find someone closer. Central Texas has a good beekeeping community and there is usually somebody within half an hour of you who does live removals properly.

Where a trip south can make sense is planned work rather than emergencies: multiple colonies on one property, a commercial site, or a job somebody local has already declined. Those get scheduled, not squeezed in, and you would know the travel cost before we committed to anything.

How to judge whoever you do call

This is the part we can genuinely help with from 200 miles away, because the questions are the same everywhere.

• Ask whether they will save the colony. Honeybees in an accessible spot can usually be extracted alive and rehomed. A company that reaches for insecticide first is choosing the fastest option, not the best one.
• Ask what happens to the comb. This is the question that separates a real removal from a spray job. Kill a colony inside a wall and leave the comb, and the honey ferments and seeps through the plasterboard in an Austin summer, then draws ants, roaches and rodents to the residue. The wax and honey have to come out.
• Ask for the price before they set off. Not a range, not a call-out fee with the real number quoted from your driveway. A firm figure over the phone, based on a proper description of where the bees are.
• Ask whether they repair what they open. A hive-out means cutting into a soffit, wall or chimney chase. Find out before they start who closes it up, re-insulates it and makes it good.
• Ask about Africanized colonies. Central Texas has a higher proportion than we do up north. A local beekeeper should be able to tell you how they assess temperament and what they do differently when a colony is defensive.

If the answers are vague on the comb and firm on the deposit, keep calling.

What to do right now

If it is a swarm hanging in the open — a cluster on a branch, a fence, a bin — it has days, not weeks, before it moves into a structure. That is the cheapest moment to deal with it and the easiest to relocate. Keep people and pets clear, don't spray it, and get a local beekeeper out today. Many will collect a swarm for very little, because they want the bees.

If bees are going in and out of a wall or soffit, the clock is slower but the cost curve is steeper. A colony builds workable comb in about a week in summer heat. Every month it stays, the eventual job gets bigger.

If it is wasps rather than bees, nobody is relocating them and the job is removal. Judge on access and safety rather than on rescue.

If someone in the household is allergic, treat any active nest near a door or walkway as urgent and stay well away from it.
