Bee and Wasp Removal in San Antonio, Texas

Straight answer first: we are a Dallas–Fort Worth beekeeping family. All four offices are in the metroplex, around 270 miles north of San Antonio. Same-day service down there is not something we can honestly offer.

The one thing worth knowing about South Texas bees

San Antonio sits in the part of Texas where Africanized genetics are most established. That does not mean every colony in your garden is dangerous, and it does not mean bees can't be removed alive. What it does mean is that temperament has to be assessed on site, by somebody who does this regularly, before anyone opens anything up.

It also raises the stakes on doing it yourself. A defensive colony disturbed by a homeowner with a can of spray is the scenario that puts people in hospital, and it is much likelier here than it is where we work.

So the advice we would give a customer in Plano — call early, ask about the comb, don't poke it — applies with more force in Bexar County, and the "don't poke it" part most of all.

What we will actually do for a San Antonio call

Ring us and you will get a beekeeper who will work out what you have and tell you honestly whether it is worth us making the trip. For most situations it isn't, and we will say so and help you find someone closer.

Planned work is the exception: multiple colonies on one property, a commercial site, or a job somebody local has already declined. That gets scheduled, with travel costs known up front.

How to judge whoever you do call

• Ask how they assess a defensive colony. In South Texas this is the first question, not an afterthought. The answer should be specific.
• Ask what happens to the comb and honey. Killing a colony inside a wall and leaving the comb swaps a bee problem for a staining, smell and secondary-pest problem.
• Ask whether the colony can be saved. Plenty can, including here. It depends on access and temperament, not on postcode.
• Ask for the price before they set off, based on a proper description of where the bees are.
• Ask who repairs what they open. Re-insulating and closing up is part of a hive-out, not an extra.

What to do right now

A swarm in the open — on a branch, a fence, a meter box — has days before it moves into a structure, and it is the cheapest and safest moment to deal with it. Keep clear, don't spray, call a local beekeeper today.

Bees going in and out of a wall is an established colony, and waiting only makes the eventual job bigger.

Wasps are removal rather than rescue. Judge on access and safety.

Anyone allergic in the household? Treat an active nest near a door or walkway as urgent and stay away from it.
